Salsa Sound co-founder and CEO, Rob Oldfield took part in a special IABM BaM Live!™ NAB Show edition on 13 October, focusing on the latest developments and thinking in Broadcast, Media & Entertainment technology.
Rob joined IABM’s Darren Whitehead and BT’s Head of Immersive + Interactive Content Research, Andy Gower, to discuss all things immersive audio for live 360 football over 5G. Salsa Sound is proud to be part of the UK government, DCMS-funded, 5G Edge-XR project, which is investigating leveraging high-speed, high-bandwidth 5G connectivity and edge compute power to facilitate XR experiences of live events on consumer devices.
The session provided insight into some of the challenges faced, pointing out specific project use-cases and demos. Salsa Sound’s flagship MIXaiR played a key part of the 360 live football use-case highlighted during the event, which enables viewers to customise their own viewpoint across multiple 8k 360 cameras, navigating the scene freely. The powerful AI-driven MIXaiR audio engine creates live adaptable immersive mixes for each of the camera feeds simultaneously, giving viewers a truly immersive audio experience that adapts to their chosen viewpoint.
